Federal Government Grants and Loans exists to make short-term borrowing transparent for the federal and postal workforce — before the application, not after the contract. We publish the payroll mechanics, the state rate rules, and the worked costs on every page, and every cost example is computed from published state rules — never invented.
What we are: a free referral service connecting applicants with independent participating lenders that accept payroll-allotment repayment. We are compensated by lenders, never by applicants. What we are not: a lender, a government agency, a grant provider, or a guarantor of approval — and we don’t sell “government grants,” which don’t work that way.
Editorial standards
- Facts from primary sources. Rate rules, statutes, and regulator details come from state statutes and regulator publications; payroll mechanics from OPM/DFAS documentation.
- Costs shown as math. Wherever we quote a loan cost, the page shows the calculation inputs.
- Named accountability. Every state page carries a named reviewer (see below).
- No approval promises. “Guaranteed approval” framing is rejected everywhere, including in the offers we choose to display.
Our reviewers
Evelyn Hart
Lead editor, federal payroll background
Evelyn spent eleven years in agency payroll operations before moving to editorial work, handling allotment setups and pay-cycle questions for civilian employees. She maintains the payroll mechanics and state rate tables on this site and verifies every worked example against the underlying rules.
Samuel Okafor
Reviewer, credit counseling background
Samuel is a certified credit counselor who has spent a decade helping households exit short-term debt cycles. He reviews every page for the questions a counselor would ask: total cost, repayment fit, and the free options worth trying first.
